Hi,
I'd like to ask for advice on how to approach building the repertoire from PGN files on pgnmentor.com . Since the file is read from top to bottom and priority is given according to the order, the oldest game from particular opening ends up as the best line (as games are listed by year played). Those moves are neither popular these days or evaluated as good ones by engines. So it doesn't seem very useful to do it like that. Should I know about something to do it right? Should I edit the opening files first and choose only a set of games from each (would it be possible to do from a phone?)?Or maybe the better approach would be to just build the repertoire manually checking moves with the engine, Internet and basing on popularity?
Any advice appreciated, thanks.
Hello ddur,
You could start by manually enter the moves of the main line you are interested in, and thereafter import a PGN file to populate your opening with secondary lines.
Please note that when you import a PGN file, the moves that you have already entered manually will not be overwritten during the import process. This allows you to direct the import to the lines you want to study.
